Our Panama Canal cruise on the Crystal Symphony leaves on Sunday from Miami, so Saturday was our travel day. We flew from Salt Lake to Miami via Detroit. In the last trip, Bob had received sufficient mileage to be Platinum on Delta, while Julie was stuck at Gold. So, we split our reservation so Bob wouldn’t be downgraded to Gold and hopefully get upgraded. Bob did get upgraded, but Julie was stuck in coach with the murderers and rapists. Interestingly, Julie struck up a conversation with the first class flight attendance Rick and told him her plight (how we were split up) and he offered her several glasses of free wine, but unfortunately no food (there was no food for purchase on the plane – boo hoo). We had a 2.75 hour layover in Detroit and then left for Ft. Lauderdale, arriving early at about 10:35 EDT. We grabbed out bags, hopped on the hotel shuttle (Springhill Suites right by the airport) and settled in for the night. BTW – the hotel was in decent shape, service was great, it just had kind of weird color schemes that made it look a little dated. But it was a nice place.
